Helmut Marko feels rivals won’t keep up with Honda
Helmut Marko feels rivals won’t keep up with Honda, as the Japanese manufacturer is completely dedicated and committed to the job at hand.
Red Bull made the bold decision of switching to Honda from next year on despite the struggles that McLaren had to undergo with the Japanese engine manufacturer.
McLaren and Fernando Alonso had laid the blame on Honda for 3 years of underperformance.
It seemed like Honda could go out of business in F1, but Toro Rosso came to their rescue and now Red Bull have gotten them on as the engine suppliers from the next season on.
Red Bull’s motorsport advsior, Helmut Marko has send out a warning to all the other teams by saying that no other engine supplier can match the ‘resource level’ of Honda.
“With Toro Rosso everything is working perfectly,” he said in an interview with Servus TV.
“Next year Honda will make a much bigger effort. They have a development centre in Sakura which nobody can keep up with.
“The Japanese have a different culture and a different way of working. You learn that over time.
“Our approach with Honda is different than McLaren’s. They were telling them how they wanted the engine to be built, we just say, ‘build the fastest engine possible for us, then we will try to fit it into the chassis’.
“We don’t have any demands, we discuss everything together.” he added.
Helmut also launched an attack on Renault, hinting that they weren’t committed enough.
“We have lost faith in Renault,” said Marko.
“Honda is a partner who is committed, has the financial and technical resources and we are the number one team for them.
“The performance of Toro Rosso is showing that they are clearly making progress.
“I am sure that next year we are going to be far ahead of Renault.” he added.
