Verstappen on Ricciardo’s Renault move
Verstappen on Ricciardo’s Renault move: I am not sure it is the best scenery to go to.
Daniel Ricciardo’s move to Renault has raised quite a few eyebrows in the F1 world, as the Australian driver almost looked set to sign a new contract with Red Bull.
All the talk around the paddock was around ‘when’ and not ‘if. But Ricciardo had a change of mind, probably after the Honda announcement. The money offered would also have been a factor.
With the summer break on, Verstappen’s comments on the move weren’t quite captured and today was the first time he was speaking to the media about his teammates’ strange decision.
Verstappen wasn’t quite convinced about the decision, admitting that he was surprised, just like everyone else, about Ricciardo’s move to Renault.
He added that if Ricciardo was just looking for a change, probably this wasn’t the right move.
“Everybody wants to win races & championships, but it is not always like that and you have to be patient. It was a surprise for me Daniel left, if it is for a change of scenery I am not sure it is the best scenery to go to.” Verstappen said

Earlier reports had also suggested that Ricciardo had left because of Red Bull favouring Verstappen, a rumour that even Christian Horner had responded to.
While Horner believed that it could have played on Ricciardo’s mind, he made it very clear that Red Bull had been treating both drivers equally and that there was no animosity between the all stakeholders involved.
