“I Like To See Fernando Win” – Max Verstappen Shares Wholesome Moment With Fernando Alonso After Monaco GP Qualifying
The 2023 Monaco Grand Prix Qualifying session saw one of the most intense battles between the top three teams to try to put their car on the pole. Max Verstappen eventually came out as the winner, beating Fernando Alonso‘s time by a mere 0.084 seconds. However, the duo shared a wholesome moment during the post-qualifying interviews when Verstappen said that he would think about letting Alonso take the win.
Max Verstappen put in a masterclass in the third sector of his final run in Q3. Alonso had claimed the provisional pole with a time of 1:11.449 before Verstappen started his last flying lap. After finishing sector two, it looked difficult for Verstappen to take the pole as he was almost three-tenths down. However, the Dutchman put together a brilliant sector 3 and claimed the pole by the smallest of margins.
This means that the Red Bull will line up alongside the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso in the front row. Behind them would be Charles Leclerc and Esteban Ocon.
Max Verstappen Will Consider Letting Alonso Win The Monaco GP
After the Qualifying concluded, the top three finishers sat down for an interview session. Fernando Alonso said that he does have a chance to win the race. However, he would need help from Max Verstappen for that to happen. He believes that it would be stupid to take it for granted that all three of them would finish the race with no issues. Especially on a track as demanding as Monaco.
Following this, the interviewer asked Verstappen if he would indeed help Alonso. Max had a huge smile on his face and he said, “I like to see Fernando win, I also like to see myself win. It’s a tough one. I’ll think about it.”
You going to help him [Alonso]?

Fernando Alonso would definitely want to take over the race lead into turn 1. Because after that, Max Verstappen would probably be uncatchable as he has been the rest of the season.
Max Verstappen would be looking for his second win in Monaco
Max Verstappen has only managed to win Monaco once, in 2021. He would be desperate to get his second victory. As for Fernando Alonso, he already has two Monaco GP wins to his name. He won it in 2006 with Renault as well as in 2007 with McLaren.
As for Charles Leclerc who will line up just behind them. He will be looking for his very first Monaco win. The Monegasque has failed to achieve any kind of good result at Monaco to date.
