LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to amass a fortune of over $1 billion while still active in the league. Combining his NBA contracts and career earnings with his investments, endorsements, and various business ventures has led to him gaining the wealth that he has. However, it seems as though he has even more money coming his way and it’s coinciding with the Miami Heat’s Game 6 loss to the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics are on the verge of making Playoff history as they will be going back home to Boston to potentially come back from a 0-3 deficit. They are only the 4th team in league history to force a Game 7 after going down 0-3 (’51 Knicks, ’94 Nuggets, and ’03 Blazers) but are the first team to have home court while doing so.

Amidst this all, James appears to be raking in some money. It’s unclear what he means by it however.

LeBron James posts a cryptic story on Instagram

As the final buzzer on the Miami Heat-Boston Celtics game sounded, LeBron James took to his Instagram story to say that ‘Money’ was calling and that he’d ‘be right back’.

Some have speculated that perhaps Kevin Durant was calling him given that his nickname is ‘Easy Money Sniper’ but this is too far-fetched for even the most imaginative person. Others have felt as though he must’ve placed a bet on Game 6 and sided with his rival, Boston Celtics, to win the game.

This is highly unlikely as he’s said on several occasions that Boston is one of the few teams he truly goes all out against because of how much he despises them. He’s had a long-standing history with them during his early Cleveland and Miami Heat days and now that he’s a Laker, the team rivalry history speaks for itself.

The most common explanation for what James meant with this story would be that he had some personal dealings that led to him earning more money. Whether this was through a person or a new venture, it’s unclear.

LeBron James is one of the most financially successful athletes in the history of sports. When it comes to the NBA, there’s only one man who eclipses him: Michael Jordan.

In all fairness, Jordan got a 20-year head-start on James and it’s through the Charlotte Hornets and his contract with Jordan brand that has led him to amass a net worth between $1.7 billion and $2.3 billion.
