Having Faced Prime Michael Jordan, 7-Time NBA Champion Surprisingly Snubs the ‘GOAT’ For Scottie Pippen
Michael Jordan is one of the greatest players of all time. This a sentiment that is held by many, especially those who got to face off against the GOAT. One player, who faced His Airness at the height of his prime was Robert Horry. Big Shot Bob was drafted into the NBA in 1992 and played MJ at the start of his championship run.
He was in awe of Jordan, but the six-time NBA Champion isn’t his favorite player. As he revealed in his appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, Horry idolized players with a similar play style to his own. And, as a result, he preferred watching Scottie Pippen‘s game over that of Jordan’s.
Robert Horry preferred Scottie Pippen over the GOAT Michael Jordan
Big Shot Bob recently appeared on the All The Smoke podcast where he shared details about his life and exemplary NBA career. He is a seven-time NBA Champion known for his incredibly clutch shots. He was a great player, but his style of play didn’t really reflect those he idolized growing up.
As he revealed in the podcast, Horry was a big Magic Johnson fan. However, as he matured he started looking for idols who matched his build and style of play. Given his tendency to perform in important high-stake games, one would assume he revered the great Michael Jordan.
A legend he had some incredible matchups with, including a scorcher in his debut season that saw Jordan drop 26 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in a loss to Horry’s Rockets. But, with all that, it was actually Jordan’s teammate, Scottie Pippen that he looked up to.
“I kind of became a Scottie Pippen fan because as you grow and you learn your game you try to pick out players that are similar to your build.”
A huge snub to His Airness, who at the moment is having a few issues with his former teammate. Regardless, there can be no denying Pippen’s greatness. He was a stellar player with a brilliant resume and career of his own.
Scottie Pippen’s legacy is more than that of just Michael Jordan’s teammate
For most people, Scottie Pippen is remembered as the Robin to Michael Jordan’s Batman. However, his career and legacy are far more than just that. He was an exceptionally gifted point forward known for his superb playmaking and equally great defending. And, with a resume that includes six NBA Championships, and several All-Star and All-NBA appearances, he is a legend of the game.
Let’s take time to put some respect on Scottie Pippen’s basketball resume:
• 10x All-Defense
• 7x All-NBA
• 7x All-Star
• 6x Champion
• Olympic Gold Medalist
• Hall of Famer pic.twitter.com/txoA1Vvdim— CBS Sports HQ (@CBSSportsHQ) September 3, 2020
It’s understandable why Robert Horry would hold Pippen in such high regard. He was an amazing player who was an integral to both MJ and the Bulls success. A player worthy of his Hall of Fame status.
