F1 Demands $40,000,000 From American Taxpayers for Las Vegas GP to Go Ahead
The 2023 Las Vegas GP is set to be one of the most glamorous F1 races in recent history. Organizers and officials have been working on making the weekend as grand as possible since the race was announced, and a lot of money has gone into setting it up. Now, F1 is also seeking another injection of cash, but this time, they want the American people to pay up.
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, F1 asked Clark County to help them out with a $40,000,000 paycheck. This is to cover the infrastructure costs that come with organizing the Grand Prix since it is in its inaugural year.

The total expected cost for the infrastructure setup is expected to be $80,000,000 but F1 is asking the American taxpayers to contribute to just 50% of it. However, there was some apprehension from the County’s side before deciding to get into negotiations with F1.
F1 enters into a $40,000,000 negotiation with Clark County
Las Vegas, which is a part of Clark County, is one of the most famous cities in the world. Its recognizable Las Vegas Strip will play host to the inaugural F1 GP this year, which has everyone excited. Behind the scenes, however, setting everything up as planned is turning out to be a bit of a challenge for the organizers.
Earlier this week, the officials of Clark County entered into negotiations with the F1 race officials. Commissioners Justin Jones, Marilyn Kirkpatrick, and Michael Naft, however, didn’t want to have a discussion at all.
“I’m not really sure from the county’s perspective how we really got to this point,” said Naft. “Formula One is already here. It’s great. I’m thrilled. This negotiation feels a little bit too late.”
The majority of this race track’s layout falls on the public roads. Famous streets like Las Vegas boulevard, Koval Lane and Sands Avenue will have to undergo road-work. Liberty Media, who owns F1, is spending its own money for these works to be completed before time.
Huge investment in Las Vegas GP expected to bear strong returns
F1 is spending a lot of money to make the Las Vegas GP successful. It is one of the most anticipated races we’ve had in F1 in a long time, and although the layout has had its fair share of criticism, the same cannot be said about the glitz and hype surrounding the event.
F1 and the organizers have spend close to $500,000,000 so far. To acquire the land where the paddock and garages will be built, $250,000,000 had to be splurged out. This has made the under construction circuit, the most expensive street track of all time.
Nevertheless, organizers and bosses of F1 and the Las Vegas GP remain confident that they will earn huge profits. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the race, with some of the ticket packages costing more than $1,000,000.
