David Warner Average in England: Australian Batter’s Last 10 Test Innings in English Conditions

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Australia batter David Warner put on display his most assured innings of the year on the first day of ICC World Test Championship final 2021-2023 against India at The Oval. Put in to bat first by India captain Rohit Sharma, Warner (43) and opening partner Usman Khawaja (0) were up against Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj under testing conditions primarily because of overcast weather in London.

While Khawaja could only last for 10 balls before becoming Siraj’s first wicket of the match, Warner countered both the right-arm pacers successfully in a 69-run second-wicket partnership alongside Marnus Labuschagne (26).

Warner, who hit eight fours during the course of his 60-ball stay, did collect boundaries towards the second half of his innings. That being said, the first hour witnessed him respecting both the bowlers and the conditions.

A proper spectacle regarding an opening batter battling it out on Day 1, however, was brought to an end right before the lunch break by India all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Known to make things happen, Thakur didn’t bowl the best of deliveries to send Warner back to the pavilion but his golden arm come to the rescue of his team yet again.

Been playing Test cricket in England for a decade now, Warner has never touched the three-figure mark in this format in this part of the world. In 32 innings over the years, the left-handed batter has scored 835 runs at an average of 26.09 including eight half-centuries.

If truth be told, Warner’s Test record in England wouldn’t have been this below par if it wasn’t for a horror show against Stuart Broad during Ashes 2019. Currently playing his last Ashes series, Warner would be hoping to end his Test career with at least one match-winning performance in England.
