"Lord": Aakash Chopra Bows Down To Shardul Thakur As His Golden Arm Dismisses David Warner Before Lunch, Day 1

India decided to pick pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur over spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 final. Thakur proved the decision right by picking the all-important wicket of Australian opener David Warner at The Oval. Warner was looking in a brilliant touch and it was a timely wicket for the Indian team.

After losing Usman Khawaja (0) in the fourth over, the duo of Warner and batter Marnus Labuschagne (26) batted with resilience. Warner was just starting to open up when Thakur came in his way.

Thakur was bowling round the wicket and Warner smashed him for a four on the second ball of the 22nd over. To be honest, the fourth delivery of the over deserved to be banged as well, but Thakur was lucky. It was a short ball angling down leg, Warner tried to guide it away, but only managed to edge the ball to wicket-keeper Srikar Bharat.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra took to social media platform Twitter to bow down to Thakur by calling him ‘Lord’. Thakur might not seem to be a lethal Test pacer, but he has a knack of putting on display game-changing spells with both the bat and the ball.

Thakur has a bowling strike rate of 40.61 in Test cricket, and he has played some valuable knocks with the bat as well. Thakur’s performance at the Gabba as an all-rounder is still fresh in every fan’s memory.

Why Is Shardul Thakur Called ‘Lord’?

Thakur once opened up on how he got his nickname ‘Lord’. After picking seven wickets in Johannesburg Test against South Africa last year, Thakur said that he has no idea where that name came from.

“I seriously don’t know who started naming me Lord. But I am sure it started in a home series against England after we returned from Australia just before the IPL. I got a lot of wickets, two consecutive wickets in an over. From there, the name arrived,” Thakur had told BCCI.

Every time Thakur does something special, social media erupts witg “Lord Shardul Thakur” memes. It is certain that he has his own unique fanbase because of his nickname.
