“Let Your Guard Down”: How Tony Stewart Shaped Kevin Harvick’s Final NASCAR Season

Normally, you would think that being a full-time NASCAR driver in the Cup Series has to be one of those jobs where one doesn’t get much free time apart from the off-season. Such are the ways and the demands of the profession that the racecar driver only begins to experience life at its normal pace after their retirement. However, Kevin Harvick could be an exception to that.

After over two decades of racing in NASCAR, Harvick announced earlier this year that the 2023 season would be his last. It was also announced that Harvick would be joining the FOX booth next year.

Yet it’s not the booth that is going to make Harvick’s life in retirement a little less relaxing than his other commitments.

Kevin Harvick stepping into new role at his firm, praises Tony Stewart

As per Forbes, Harvick will be extensively focusing on his management firm, KHI Management. It was reported that the #4 driver will be taking on a bigger, more enhanced role in which he would be acting as a mentor to the firm’s clients.

Harvick also opened up on the work he has put in with his boss Tony Stewart in preparing the aesthetics of his final season in NASCAR.

“We put logos into place for racetracks, fans and merchandise,” Harvick said. “We really put a lot of pieces into play for the small things that we didn’t want to creep up as we started the season. Stewart-Haas Racing has been a huge part of everything that we have going on because of everything they did with Tony.”

Harvick added how the advice from Stewart and his team was key in eliminating distractions. “Our goal from the beginning was to make sure the distractions didn’t get in the way of the competition,” he claimed.

Harvick is excited for his final showing at Sonoma

Sonoma, a racetrack that more or less shaped the foundational years of Kevin Harvick’s career as a racecar driver, will witness his last run in the NASCAR Cup Series this Sunday. And obviously, the NASCAR legend was full of gratitude for the racetrack’s contribution to his career.

For me, Sonoma is one of the places that I’ve raced at for so long and really spent a lot of time up there in my West Coast days with the Southwest Tour car and all the different things that I’ve been fortunate to race there,” he said.

Now, all things considered, it would be a little ambitious to presume that Harvick could actually win in Sonoma this weekend. But then again, he is called ‘The Closer’ for a reason.

So one shouldn’t be surprised if Harvick closes out one of the most important chapters of his career in style.
