“Pretty Much All the Corners”: Lewis Hamilton Gives Damning Verdict About Mercedes’ Pace in Comparison to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen

The Canadian Grand Prix produced an enthralling race from start to finish with Max Verstappen coming out on top. The Dutchman grabbed his 41st race win and led the Grand Prix from start to finish. The Red Bull driver’s dominance was such that it even prompted arch-rival Lewis Hamilton to concede that he pretty much lost in all the corners to the 25-year-old.

The Briton had a decent race as he finished in third, behind longtime rival Fernando Alonso. With Verstappen currently in a world of dominance of his own, Hamilton and Alonso delighted the fans with an exciting battle for second.

Ultimately, the pace of the Aston Martin of Alonso proved too much for Hamilton. Since the 38-year-old was behind both Verstappen and Alonso for a significant part of the race, he made some interesting comments in the cool-down room.

We suck“: Lewis Hamilton admits Mercedes is no match for Red Bull

After finishing a whopping 14 seconds behind race winner Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton made some damning revelations about Mercedes’ pace. While speaking in the cool-down room, he told the Dutchman (as quoted by Sky Sports F1), “We suck in the low-speed corner. That’s where you’re just destroying me, out of the low-speed – actually pretty much all the corners“.

After commenting upon Verstappen’s pace, Hamilton hilariously added, “Your rear end is insane“. When Fernando Alonso asked the Briton if he was talking about the rear end of his Aston Martin, Hamilton added, “Yours (Aston Martin) is pretty awesome too“.

Hamilton reveals his target for the rest of the season

After a difficult Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton revealed his and Mercedes’ target for the rest of the 2023 season. The Briton said that the team needs to work hard to improve the pace of the car, especially in the low-speed corners, to beat the Aston Martins.

As things stand, the fight for second in the Constructors’ Championship is extremely tight between Mercedes and Aston Martin. After the first eight races of the season, the Silver Arrows have scored 167 points and have a 13-point lead over third-placed Aston Martin.

Hamilton will now hope that Mercedes can produce an even better performance in Austria, which is the next race on the 2023 calendar. The Austrian Grand Prix will take place from June 30 to July 2.
