Premier League 2018/19: Arsenal’s expected lineup vs Newcastle

Arsenal had a poor start to their season under new head-coach Unai Emery. They lost both of their opening games to Manchester City and Chelsea, but have made a significant recovery since. Even though the football was far from convincing, Arsenal have secured six points since. They now travel to St. James’ Park where Arsenal takes on Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United.

Newcastle, too, lost their last two matches against Chelsea and Manchester City, although only marginally. With Arsenal not in their best of runs, Benitez’s men will aim to strike an upset against the ‘Gunners.’

TheSportsRush takes a look at Arsenal’s expected lineup, as they enter the field on Saturday evening to seal another three points.

Goalkeeper: Petr Cech

Unai Emery continues to trust the experience of Petr Cech in front of the goal, and is expected to continue with the Czech keeper.

Defence: Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis, Monreal

Like Cech in the goal, the Spanish head coach is likely to persist with the same defensive lineup against Newcastle United.

Midfield: Guendouzi, Torreira

Granit Xhaka has been underwhelming for Arsenal ever since he joined the club, and the new season doesn’t change the story for Swiss international. Guendouzi, who won the Arsenal player of the month award in August, is likely to start alongside Lucas Torreira. In Guendouzi and Torreira, Arsenal have two great ball winners who provide pace and fluidity in the midfield.

Forward: Ramsey, Ozil, Aubameyang

Arsenal captain Mesut Ozil will resume his duty as number 10, complimented by Aaron Ramsey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on either wings. Aubameyang ended his goal-drought against Cardiff City before the international break, which comes as a sigh of relief to the Gunners.

Striker: Alexandre Lacazette

The French striker scored the winning goal for Arsenal against Cardiff City from a tight angle, which proved to be the sole difference between both the sides. As a sole striker, he might provide Unai Emery with an edge in front of the goal, and Emery would be inclined to stick to the formation.
