ESPN sources pin Mesut Ozil to leave Arsenal for Turkish club Fenerbahce in January after rift with Unai Emery.

Arsenal midfield star Mesut Ozil might be set to leave the club in the January transfer window. ESPN sources suggest that the former German international had a rift with Arsenal’s head-coach Unai Emery before the match against West Ham.

Ozil was subsequently kept out of squad for the game, citing illness.

“Ozil had an argument with coach Emery at practice this week, came out screaming,” said the ESPN source.

Mesut Ozil started in Arsenal’s last match before the international break against Cardiff City, but it looks like the issues between the player and the head-coach persist. British dailies report that the midfielder is now looking to leave the club in January.

The Arsenal captain signed a new contract with the club earlier this year in January, when another club star Alexis Sanchez joined rivals Manchester United.

Arsenal’s head coach Unai Emery, however, has denied any reports of rift between him and Ozil so far.

“I don’t know who started telling people this information. He was sick yesterday. And decided not to play today. If you ask me, the doctor, or the club. He was sick. He left training because he was going home. He was sick. Today he was here. I said come if you feel better and he felt better,” Emery said in a press conference a few days ago.

Arsenal are currently 9th in the Premier League with six points in four games. The Gunners had a poor start to their campaign, losing both of their opening games to Manchester City and Chelsea.

Mesut Ozil was also in headlines earlier in the season after he announced his retirement from international football, citing racism as a primary reason for his decision.
