Gerard Pique takes a dig at Real Madrid

Gerard Pique could not resist taking a dig at Real Madrid following the draw against Lyon in the Champions League.

Barcelona were poor from their usual standards when they played Lyon in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday. The game ended 0-0 and both the sides missed the flurry of chances to go ahead in the game.

Despite having a front three of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Ousmane Dembele, they failed to break the deadlock in this game. On the other hand, Lyon showed great character and they could have scored a couple had they been clinical in front of the goal.

Barcelona totally took 24 shots in the game, but only five were on target and Luis Suarez was the main culprit who extended his duck by not scoring a European goal away from home since 2015.

With no advantage for both the sides going into the second leg, Barcelona are clearly the favourites to head into the Quarterfinals of the competition.

After the completion of the game, Gerard Pique said that they are not much happy with the draw, but he knows that his side will turn up better on March 13th.

“The team has improved, although we must still do more,” said Pique, per Marca. “We had chances and it’s true that it was tough when we tried to score.

“But I am generally content. I think we’ve improved, but we can improve even more. The truth is that we weren’t clinical up front, but that doesn’t overly worry me.

“Those up front have shown over their careers that they can score lots of goals and the ball will end up going in. Luis Suarez always scores a lot for us and will keep doing so.”

One member from the press asked Pique about Real Madrid’s third goal at Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid. The Spanish centre-half decided to take shots at the Los Blancos after a long time.

“It happens in basketball and in football,”

“Then they go to the Wanda Metropolitano and they’re quiet for a while after what happened there.

“It’s a good thing they don’t do other sports, like handball or hockey, as they’d complain about those, too.”

The Barcelona’s defender was obviously referring to the decision which went in the favour of Real Madrid against their arch-rivals in the La Liga. The Los Blancos also got lucky in the Champions League clash against Ajax, but Pique decided against talking about that game.

Barcelona will now take on Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Saturday followed by the game at Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey Semifinals.
