In all these years, Indian fans have been used to waking up early during the winter season in the country to follow international cricket being played in Australia and New Zealand. While such a situation will be replicated today onwards, it will happen in a completely different season for a completely different tournament.

The commencement of the inaugural season of Major League Cricket, United States of America’s foray into coming up with their own T20 tournament, is almost certain of forcing Indian fans to get out of bed in the monsoon season. With each team slated to face the remaining five teams on a home-away basis across a couple of venues, a total of 30 league and an Indian Premier League-style four-match playoffs round will add to a total of 34 matches. Speaking of the IPL, readers must note that four out of the six MLC 2023 teams are owned by owners of IPL teams.

As far as the squads are concerned, active high-profile IPL-bound cricketers who will also be participating in the MLC are Rashid Khan, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Faf du Plessis, Trent Boult, David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis and Kagiso Rabada.

Viacom18 has bagged the broadcasting rights of Major League Cricket 2023 for the Indian audiences. As a result, adding this novel event in their ever-growing portfolio of sporting competitions.

It is worth mentioning that all the 34 MLC 2023 matches will be televised on Sports18 – Viacom’s designated sports channel. Furthermore, Jio Cinema will be live streaming these contests free of cost across its website and mobile application.

“Jio Cinema continues to change the landscape of sports consumption. Indian viewers love T20 cricket, and we expect them to enjoy the action from the inaugural edition of the league across Jio Cinema and Sports18,” Hursh Shrivastava, head of strategy, partnerships and acquisitions, Viacom18 Sports, had said in a press release last week.
