Kyle Busch Was Convinced His NASCAR Career Had Come to an End Last Year

The 2022 NASCAR season was a tumultuous time for Kyle Busch as his primary sponsor M&M’s announced that they would be pulling out of the sport. This announcement left the Joe Gibbs Racing driver scrambling to find a new primary sponsor in order to extend his Cup Series tenure. There were plenty of speculations about Busch before RCR stepped in and gave Rowdy a home to look forward to.

Recently while speaking with Fox Sports, Busch explained how he was almost convinced that his career in the NASCAR Cup Series had run its course. He then went on to explain what lies in the future for him as he powers through a brilliant season so far with RCR.

During the conversation with Bob Pockrass, Busch was quizzed about his statement from last year that he did not know if he saw himself racing this year. The two-time champion stated, “I didn’t. It was [Loudon] weekend last year. I told Jim France, I said, ‘Nice knowing you. I’m not going to be here next year.’ And so he was like, ‘Wait, what? What does that mean?’ He then found out. Maybe he had something to do with it [here at RCR], I don’t know.”

Busch believes that France had something to do with his placement at Richard Childress Racing, although he cannot be entirely sure about the same. But knowing France, he must have surely put a word forward, although this is just a speculative stance, rather than anything concrete.

Later on during the same interview, Busch was also quizzed about his future involvement with the sport. He explained his future plans involving his son Brexton as he grew up and rose through the ranks of American Motorsports and stock car racing.

Busch responded, “I don’t know. I would really like to run a year of trucks before Brexton is old enough and then turn the truck over to him when he’s old enough. But we’ll see how all that plays out. Got to have sponsors first.”

He has previously spoken about getting to be around the sport till his son at least reaches the Truck Series. Having been very supportive of his son’s career progression, it would be obvious that he’s looking forward to staying in the Cup Series for a couple of more years. But staying around in motorsports involves sponsors, and as long as he has the sponsor’s support, things should be fine in the long run.
