38-Year-old Michael Jordan Once Defied Gravity with a Two-Handed Block Against the Bulls

In 2001, a 38-year-old Michael Jordan returned to the NBA and showed everyone that he is not called the GOAT for nothing. He showcased his defensive skills and hustle mentality on the court with a two-handed block on Ron Artest, also known as Metta World Peace.

Michael Jordan’s second return from retirement was not as flashy as his first one. It happened at a time when the United States was still recovering from the horrifying impact of 9/11.

In a game against his former team, the Chicago Bulls, Jordan pulled a massive feat that once again displayed his greatness, even as a 38-year-old.

During an offensive play, Metta (Ron) Artest had blocked one of Jordan’s shots. After the Bulls recovered the ball, they went for a fastbreak counter. However, MJ took the block personally and soon retaliated with one of his own.

His Airness came up with a two-handed block on the defensive end against Artest’s shot. Defying gravity at that age showed everyone why MJ was given his ‘His Airness’ title. MJ leaped high to block the shot and ended up gathering the ball after slapping it against the back board in mid air. The move really electrified the crowd.

Artest, in that game, was the leading scorer for the Bulls and had put up 25 points already. On the other hand, Jordan registered 29 points with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Thanks to Jordan’s fiery offense and fort-like defense, the Wizards won the game 89-83.

Jordan’s second return was not as flamboyant as his first Bulls return

Michael Jordan’s return as a Washington Wizards player was not as flamboyant as one would have expected. Jordan decided to lace back his shoes, considering the condition of the Wizards’ roster at that time. As the General Manager, Jordan substituted himself as a player that his team now needed.

However, the Wizards’ success was quite underwhelming in the two seasons that Jordan played.

In 2003, His Airness finally decided to hang up his boots, this time with certainty. However, these memorable moments will always remind us of his incredible athleticism.
