19 Months After Grave Injustice, Lewis Hamilton Makes Baffling Statement About Losing 8th Title to Max Verstappen

19 months have passed since the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP took place, and even today, fans remember it as being one of the most controversial races of all time. For Max Verstappen and his fans, it was a jubilant occasion, but for Lewis Hamilton and his camp, it was exactly the opposite. Following the conclusion of the race in Abu Dhabi, the British driver went off the grid completely. He went to therapy, skipped all public engagements, and resorted to unfollowing everyone on social media.

However, he returned to social media just two months before the 2022 season went underway. He had promised the fans to fight for the championship once again and take back what he lost to Verstappen in 2021. But sadly for Hamilton, Mercedes failed to provide him with a championship-winning car that year, which has continued onto the 2023 season.

Lewis Hamilton asked for competitiveness even after losing the 2021 battle

The 2021 F1 season was one of the mots exhilarating F1 campaigns of all time. It was a season where Hamilton and Verstappen went neck to neck throughout the year. So much so that the duo started the very last race of the season, level on points. The equation was clear- whoever finished ahead would win the title.

However, the 38-year-old eventually lost the race and endured the pain for months. But now, his latest statement seems baffling as he voted for excitement and entertainment over complete domination.

Talking about this, the Mercedes star said, “We have to keep improving to have tighter fights for the World Cup [Championship]. What a title It’s open and it’s decided in the last race, it’s the best thing that can happen to you, it’s incredible, and the more teams there, the better.”

Wolff found the silver lining in Abu Dhabi 2021 race

Lewis Hamilton was the biggest loser at the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Had he won the race, he could have had eight world championships under him and surpassed Michael Schumacher to become the driver with the most F1 world titles.

But now, one and a half years later, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff found a silver lining in that incident. According to him, he seemed to have found a lot of recognition and sympathy from the fans.

This sympathy was missing for Mercedes for the majority of the turbo-hybrid era because of their dominance. The 51-year-old boss is also of the opinion that fans began to see the Silver Arrows in a positive light following the infamous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race.
