“Might Be the Perfect Time”: Bubba Wallace Insider Approves NASCAR Making Gains Over F1’s Diminishing Popularity
NASCAR fans and insiders were recently delighted to hear the announcement of a new Drive to Survive-esque Netflix series on the sport. This series will cover the coming playoffs and it counts Dale Earnhardt Jr. as one of its Executive Producers. Many are hoping that it would have the same effect in terms of a popularity boom as D2S had for Formula 1. But if Freddie Kraft, the spotter of Bubba Wallace is to be believed, NASCAR could capitalize even more with this new avenue.
The spotter recently explained why, despite being late ‘to the party’, the sport could capitalize big time on a Netflix docu-series considering where F1 is at the moment. Moreover, Kraft’s fellow spotter, Brett Griffin also revealed the one thing which the docu-series needs to have in order to be a hit.
Freddie Kraft claims NASCAR could capitalize on F1’s plateauing interest
During a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Kraft opened up on his thoughts about the new Netflix NASCAR docu-series which he claimed did wonders for F1 and Golf. He described, “We’re late to the party but now this might be a good time because the Formula 1 races have been so bad, I’m sure that people are losing whatever interest they gained from the Netflix series, it’s starting to plateau.”
The spotter claimed while F1 hasn’t always been a competitive sport, the state of things over there is pretty uncompetitive at the moment. “This guy wins by 30 seconds every week. You watch a race, they build the hype up like, ‘Oh Verstappen qualified 8th today. It’d be a hard race for him.’ At lap 3, he is leading,” he claimed.
“So this might be the perfect time for NASCAR to jump in here where the fan isn’t so enamored by Formula 1 anymore and maybe they’re looking for another avenue and we jump in here and present a good show, a good product on there, maybe we can steal some of that people away.”

Brett Griffin hopes the Netflix docu-series has one key ingredient
On the same subject, Brett Griffin also thought that NASCAR was a few years late to the party. But considering the subscriber base of Netflix, which is around 200 million or 2/3rds of the population of the United States of America, he’s all in.
Having said that, Griffin hoped that it’s well put together and represents the sport and the community well along with a major ingredient. “I’ve been involved in a few docu-series in the last few years and you gotta have drama, manufactured or not,” he claimed.
Now how well this coming Netflix docu-series works for NASCAR, we’ll find out in a few months. But it is 100% a big win for the sport.
