MSK Prasad on Kedar Jadhav’s injury: “He’ll be coming back after two ODIs”
MSK Prasad on Kedar Jadhav’s injury: The Chief Selector has hinted at the Indian all-rounder recovering from his injury this month.
The Indian squad for the first two ODIs against West Indies was announced yesterday. In an announcement which finally gave a maiden ODI call-up to Rishabh Pant, it also saw a couple of major names remaining unnamed.
In Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav, India saw two all-rounders getting injured during the Asia Cup. In a line-up which doesn’t contain any bowling options in its first five batsmen, the all-rounders getting injured is the last thing you can think of.
On being asked about whether Jadhav and Pandya are still recovering from their respective injuries or whether they have been dropped/rested, chief selector MSK Prasad said that both of them are still nursing their injuries.
“Kedar Jadhav is yet to recover from his injury. He’ll be coming back after two ODIs. Hardik [Pandya] is still not ready. As per the reports, he will only be ready in the second week of November,” he was quoted.
For the first two ODIs, India also handed a surprise ODI call-up to Mohammad Shami, someone who has played only three ODIs post a successful stint in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia. Answering the reason behind Shami’s recall, Prasad said that it was to give him opportunities ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
“It’s an interesting question. I’ve been telling this for quite sometime but we are just 18 ODIs [away] from our first World Cup game. So, we need to figure out out fast bowlers. In that process, we have picked Shami for this series,” he said.
On being asked about the development for finalizing a name to bat at No.4 for India, Prasad said that the selection committee is very close on the same. “We are very close on that. It’s a wonderful question because it has been in the debate for sometime. We have really closed in on a couple of games,” he added.
