Rishabh Pant scores 18 runs off Nathan Lyon over: The Indian wicket-keeper scored 18 runs off four balls form Australian off-spinner.
During the fourth day of the first Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Adelaide, India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant scored three consecutive fours and a six off Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
Having taken on the attack against their best bowler in the innings, Pant had made his intentions clear from the word go. The 21-year old cricketer wasn’t afraid of dancing down the track against a bowler who was getting the ball to turn sharply. Furthermore, attempting the same in the first over after the lunch break speaks highly about the courage of the batsman.
It all happened in the 96th over of the Indian innings when on the third delivery Pant stepped out and hit a Lyon delivery for a one bounce boundary through the midwicket region. On the following delivery, Pant tried a similar shot in a similar region, earning a similar result.
While any other batsman wouldn’t have stepped out post scoring two boundaries off Lyon, Pant hit another one over the long-on this time. On the last ball of the over, Pant sat down on one knee to thwack the ball over the deep square leg boundary for a six.
Having provided a swift start to his team, Pant should have looked to accumulate more runs. While he is being praised for being courageous, a bit of patience at the same time would have aided India to rule Australia out of the match in the third innings itself.
On the first ball of the Lyon’s next over, Pant attempted another aerial shot, hitting the ball straight to Aaron Finch at deep cover point. Pant ended up scoring 28 (16) with the help of four fours and a six.

If he can be little bit better with his shot selection and can show more maturity he can become a real good player. 👍#RishabhPant

It was great while it lasted, he can hit the ball a long way, needs to control his urge to hit the big ones sometimes.

So much ability for Rishabh Pant. When he marries it to discretion, he will be some player…… This was a nice little cameo, important runs, but there was more in his tank.

India’s shot making since lunch has come straight from “the Rishabh Pant manual of shot selection”. Atrocious! #AusvInd
