ICC Test Rankings Update: Lyon, Hazlewood move into Top 10
ICC Test Rankings Update: A recent update in the MRF ICC Test Rankings has seen several changes in all the three categories.
Having picked up 16 wickets in two matches at an average of 19.43, an economy rate of 2.53 and a strike rate of 46.4, Australia premier off-spinner Nathan Lyon has climbed seven spots to move to No. 7 in the ICC Test rankings.
Meanwhile, Australia vice-captain Josh Hazlewood, who picked up eight wickets in two matches at an average of 23.12, an economy rate of 2.46 and a strike rate of 56.2, has moved up by two spots to reach No. 9 in the bowlers’ rankings.
Among the Indian bowlers, the trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma received individual developments. While Bumrah climbed five spots to reach No. 28, Shami climbed two spots to reach No. 21 and Sharma surpassed England all-rounder Moeen Ali to reach No. 26.
Talking of the Test series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee, who clinched eight wickets in the first Test at Wellington, rose by four spots to No.11. Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara, who picked up four wickets in the first Test jumped four spots to No.44.
Among the batsmen, India captain Virat Kohli, who scored his 25th Test hundred in the Perth Test, had retained his top spot. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who recently became the first Kiwi batsman to cross the 900-point mark, remains at No. 2.
On the back of a determined 14th half-century, Australia batsman Usman Khawaja surpassed Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal at No. 12. Australia captain Tim Paine jumped from No. 55 to No. 46, while his teammates in Travis Head (17 spots to No. 63) and Aaron Finch (17 spots to No. 72) also jumped up the ladder.
Indian middle-order batsmen Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant also saw progress in their individual ranks. While Vihari jumped 12 spots to reach No. 110, Pant jumped 11 spots to reach No. 48.
