Indian cricketers praise team for Adelaide ODI win
Indian cricketers praise team for Adelaide ODI win: Former and current players hailed the Indian team’s performance at Adelaide.
During the second ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Adelaide, India defeated the opposition by 6 wickets to stay alive in the three-match series. Having lost the first match at Sydney by 34 runs, it was imperative for India to not lose this match.
After winning the toss for the second time in a row, Australia captain Aaron Finch opted to bat yet again. On the back of batsman Shaun Marsh’s seventh ODI century, Australia scored 298-9 in their allotted quota of 50 overs.
Marsh ended up scoring 131 (123) with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. The fact that Marsh stood tall on the expectations after Australia’s top-three batsman failed to contribute significantly speaks highly about his importance in this ODI line-up. Since his ODI comeback in June last year, the 35-year old batsman has scored 601 runs in nine matches at an average of 66.77 and a strike rate of 100.
Among the Indian bowlers, fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the attack from the front picking up bowling figures of 10-0-45-4. India captain Virat Kohli expressed pleasure with his bowlers restricting the opposition to under 300 during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Once the Indian openers got out after impressive starts, the onus was on Kohli to seal the chase. While he scored his 39th ODI century in a ‘Man of the Match’ effort, his dismissal had put India in a spot of bother.
However, it was the wicket-keeper batsman-duo of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik shared a 57-run unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket to keep India alive in the three-match ODI series. Dhoni ended up scoring 55* (54) with the help of a couple of sixes. On the other hand, Karthik’s vital contribution saw him scoring 25* (14) with the help of a couple of fours.
The tense chase saw the Indian batsmen accumulate praiseworthy reactions from some current and former Indian cricketers. Read them below:
