Solskjaer discloses Marcus Rashford could start against Southampton

Solskjaer has revealed that Marcus Rashford could make a start against Southampton in the Saturday afternoon kick-off at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will be taking on Southampton in the weekend fixture at Old Trafford.

The side is currently at fifth in the Premier League table and registered a 3-1 win against Crystal Palace earlier this week.

The victory was significant as Manchester United entered the field without 10 first-team players, including all of their first-choice attackers.

Romelu Lukaku scored a brace while Ashley Young finished the game with an excellent goal in the closing stages to secure the three points at Selhurst Park.

 

Solskjaer interacted with the media for the pre-match conference for the game against Southampton at Old Trafford, where he gave an update over the injury list at the club.

He stated that Manchester United will host the game with a somewhat similar squad to the match against Crystal Palace as the players have not yet attained match fitness.

“I don’t think there will be many changes,” Solskjaer said. “We have got the last session today, but w are not going to risk anyone if they are not 100 per cent. So let’s see tomorrow when we wake up.

“The squad will be looking similar, still. Maybe one third of it will be Academy kids – maybe even more. So that is a good point to take out of it.”

However, he informed that Marcus Rashford has made an improvement and that the player can start against Southampton.

“He still felt it Wednesday night but he’ll be ready I’ll probably start him,” the caretaker manager said.

The English youngster is one of the most improved players under Solskjaer. Marcus Rashford has scored six of his nine Premier League goals this season under the Norwegian in 10 games.

 

Solskjaer stated that the side needs to get back to winning ways at Old Trafford. Manchester United played a goalless draw against Liverpool at the stadium last week, and lost 2-0 to PSG in the first leg of the Champions League earlier this month.

“We’ve had a good look at them, you’ve gotta be two or three games ahead,it was a big win against Fulham, he did great when he came in they had a tougher spell in February but when you win a game like this you’re confident.

“We need to get back to winning ways at home and Southampton might change but we’ve got to focus on what we improve on.”
