Why was Diego Costa sent off? Twitter decodes NSFW rant | Barcelona vs Atletico
Diego Costa was given a red card for heavy dissent against the referee. But what did Costa say? Why was he red carded? Twitter has apparently decoded the NSFW rant.
Diego Costa was sent off early in the first half of the crucial fixture against Barcelona in the La Liga.
The Spanish forward turned aggressive on the referee and seemed to push him, even as referee showed him a straight red. Costa had to be calmed down by his fellow teammate Jan Oblak, and was escorted off the pitch by Spain’s teammate Gerard Pique.
But why did Diego Costa red carded? Twitter has seemed to decode what Diego Costa said to referee, which led to the match official showing him a straight red.
Why was Diego Costa sent off:
Diego Costa was left in shock after he believed he was fouled in the passage of play, and went to the referee to let him know his opinion.
However, the forward led out a flurry of abuses at the referee, and the official had no alternative but to send the player off.
But what did Diego Costa say? If Twitter is to be believed, Diego Costa made a rather provocative statement on the referee’s mother.
Here’s what Diego Costa allegedly said:

Needless to say, it wasn’t surprising when referee pulled out a red card from his pocket. Things went worse after Diego Costa continued to push him, however, but the Spanish forward was ultimately escorted away by Jan Oblak and Gerard Pique.
The red card proved costly for Atletico Madrid as a ten-man side failed to hold the Barcelona attack. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored late goals within a minute of each other as Barcelona took a step closer to their second consecutive La Liga title.
What next?
The Catalan giants will now travel to Old Trafford where they take on Manchester United in the first leg of the Champions League.
The side can now shift their focus towards the Champions League, as they’ve now taken an 11-point lead over Atletico.
