In the first encounter of both these teams this season, Kings XI had defeated Capitals by 14 runs at Mohali. The match will be predominantly remembered for DC bundling down in a 167-run chase post a hat-trick from Punjab all-rounder Sam Curran.

In the two matches both the teams played each other in IPL 2019, Kings XI defeated Delhi on both the occasions. In the first match at Mohali, Kings XI had chased down 167 runs on the back of individual half-centuries from Lokesh Rahul (51) and Karun Nair (50).

In the return match at Delhi, Punjab bowlers successfully defended 143 runs as the visitors won the match by a narrow margin of four runs. It was the trio of Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye and Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked up a couple of wickets each.
