Williams F1 takeover: Potential buyer releases statement on media reports after rumours had surfaced about the purchase.

Williams find themselves in a mess this season, as their car simply does not have the required power to to compete with F1’s elite or even with the midfield. Both George Russell and Robert Kubica have been trying their best to extract the maximum out of the car, even though they feel it is not humanly possible to get a lot out of the car.

Amidst the chaos, reports started coming in a few days back that Williams could be undergoing a takeover at the hands of Russian businessman Dmitry Mazepin.

Mazepin’s company Uralkali was last in the news in an F1 context when Force India was forced into administration. Uralkali was in line to buy Force India out, but the deal fell off.

Williams F1 takeover?

After reports came through of a possible takeover, a Uralkali spokesman came out with a statement about the same, clarifying that the rumours were infact untrue and that Uralkali was not looking to purchase the Williams F1 team.

“The information that appeared in the media is untrue.” the Uralkali spokesman said as quoted by Tass

“Uralkali is not holding any negotiations regarding the purchase of the Williams team.” he added.

Williams will need some more financial backing going deep into the season and for the next season as well, as they seriously need to work on their car, which has been off the mark for sometime now.

Being one of the most celebrated teams on the grid, the traditional F1 romantics would hate to see the Williams team go down. A rich history, but a sorry present and Williams would want to sort that out.
