Greg Olsen on Kansas City: “I Don’t Watch the Chiefs and Say, Oh My God, They’re a Juggernaut”
The Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated this season, seven and counting. If we go back to last season, then the run is 13 games old. However, it has not been a perfect script. While the wins have been coming, the Chiefs have hardly been dominant or problem-free overall. Greg Olsen believes that imperfections notwithstanding, they are still the team to beat in the NFL.
” I don’t watch the Kansas City and say, Oh, my god that’s a juggernaut, Yet nobody can beat them. The team we think are juggernauts, you know the Ravens who most weeks look like they are the best team in the league, they couldn’t beat them,” said Olsen in the latest episode of the Ryen Russillo Podcast.
So why does Kansas City continue to win games when the stats paint a different picture?
It begins with QB1 Patrick Mahomes, who has been less productive this season. He has already turned the ball nine times in seven games. The two-time MVP has only thrown for 1,651 yards and eight TDs in the victories.
The truth is that no single player stands out in Kansas City. And, there is a reason why they continue to deliver despite the lack of individual brilliance or outstanding records.
Olsen emphasized that the way Mahomes delivers in clutch moments is a factor. Along with that, Andy Reid’s brilliant offensive system means the Chiefs maximize their output even with limited effectiveness up front.
The Chiefs have transitioned from the best offensive team to the defensive powerhouse over a couple of seasons thanks to the strategic drafts and signings they managed.
Steve Spagnuolo, arguably, the best Defensive Coordinator in the NFL, now has enough weapons to implement his game plan. Defense coupled with Mahomes and Reid’s offensive genius gives them some margin for shortcomings. They clearly don’t have to be at their best to win games.
So, Olsen believes it would be foolish to write them off this season. And unless a team has similar capabilities under pressure like Kansas City, the Mahomes-led side appear on their way to a three-peat.
