David Warner replacement: Sunrisers Hyderabad opening batsman has returned back to Australia to prepare for the World Cup.

During the 51st match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mumbai, Sunrisers Hyderabad will take the field without their star opening batsmen David Warner for the first time in IPL 2019.

With the southpaw returning back to Australia to prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Hyderabad will doubtlessly miss this season’s highest run-scorer. In 12 matches this season, Warner scored 692 runs at an average of 69.20 and a strike rate of 143.86 including a century and eight half-centuries.

After Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat, he also announced that the hosts will take the field with the same XI which played in the last match.

“We will bat first. It is a fresh pitch and looks like it will play well. We are aware about the dew factor. But we have bowled well in those situations. We want to keep things as simple as possible and see where we go.

“We are going with the same team. We are playing in home conditions but we know we still have to play good cricket to win,” Sharma was quoted as saying during the toss.

On the other hand, Sunrisers captain Kane Williamson announced that the 32-year old old left-hand batsman has been replaced by New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill. “This pitch will remain fresh for the entire match. We want to be aggressive with the new ball. [Martin] Guptill comes in for David [Warner].

“And Basil Thampi comes in place of Sandeep Sharma. So, two changes for us. Last game was a strong performance for us. It is important that we try to build on that,” Williamson was quoted as saying.
