Fact Check: Did Draymond Green Offer Chris Paul $1 Million To Become Bronny James’ Godfather? Quashing Wild Rumor
Claim: A post is garnering attention on X which claims that Draymond Green had offered an exorbitant amount of money to Chris Paul to take his place as the godfather of Bronny James. The amount offered, a whopping $1,000,000, was the price Green was willing to pay to get into the inner circle of LeBron James, the post, rather audaciously, claimed.
With LeBron being the face of the league for over two decades, his family has also been in the spotlight more often than not. And, with their lives revolving around the game, naturally, LeBron’s close circle comprises players and personalities from the league.
James has connections that took a lifelong to build. Paul is one of the them. Their friendship on and off the court is so strong that LeBron would not have anyone else but him as Bronny’s guardian in the eventuality of anything happening to him and his wife. The godfather position has a larger connotation to it, you see.

Verdict: The claim is false.
There is no truth in the rumor that Green had offered Paul money to forsake his right as godfather of James Jr. NBACentel was the account that pushed this ‘news story’ out.
‘Centel’ has become notorious in the fake news space, and they generate millions of interactions per day from spreading rumors that were conjured up from figments of their imagination at best.
The name of the account sounds similar to the legitimate X news account, NBACentral. They even use similar profile pictures, which is done on purpose by the fake news account to mislead the users into believing the false narratives they peddle.
As far as this story is concerned, there have been no reports or updates on Chris Paul’s position as godfather to Bronny. The reason why Draymond was chosen as the ‘protagonist’ of this false narrative is because of his connection to LeBron.
Despite their many battles on the court, both Green and James are very close off it. So much so that NBA fans have started making fun of their friendship, mainly poking at Green’s supposed admiration of LeBron.
It’s safe to say that if something as dramatic as a $1 million transaction had taken place to ‘buy the rights’ to Bronny’s godfather, it would have made the news headlines, and not just be an item on a fantasy-laced tweet.
