Cristiano Ronaldo: Florentino Perez discloses the true reason behind Ronaldo’s departure from Real Madrid
Florentino Perez has disclosed the real reason behind Ronaldo’s departure from Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said that he let Cristiano Ronaldo leave because he wanted a salary hike, which was not possible at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid were shabby throughout the season and never looked assured from day one without their star man Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese International wanted a renewed contract with salary hike, but Perez decided against that move because of his age.
“Cristiano wanted a new challenge & took advantage of the UCL final to say it. He’s the best player I’ve ever signed. His 9 years in the club have been exemplary & never created any problem.”
“Cristiano never asked Real Madrid to pay his [tax fine] debt. He wanted to have a change and improve his contract. In the end he found it in Juventus, in the end it was good for everyone.” said Perez.
Thus, he decided to make a move and Juventus made a move for the 34-year-old. He left back a legacy at Santiago Bernabeu by winning the Champions League four times and La Liga twice. Besides, his fierce rivalry with Lionel Messi was a treat to watch as the duo battled out for several individual accolades over the last decade.
“These great players need new challenges, in the end he has found a new family in Juventus and is happy, and if he is happy we all are. I’m not going to tell you if I talked to him, I’m not talking about money or stuff like that.”
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, Florentino Perez decided to put his trust on Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, and Vinicius Jr, but the trio never found their feet and struggled to fill his shoes. The trio scored 21 goals in all competitions in between them, a tally which equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals in the Serie A alone.
“CR7 got an offer & was determined & we felt with Asensio, Bale & Vinicius we had cover. Did I ever speak to Cristiano again after he left? Intimate conversations & things don’t count.”
