Marcus Stoinis replacement announced after Australian all-rounder received an injury setback | Cricket World Cup 2019
Marcus Stoinis replacement announced as the Aussie all-rounder suffered an injury blow ahead of Australia vs Pakistan CWC 2019 match
Key Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of the Australia vs Pakistan clash which is set to be played on June 12 (Wednesday) at Taunton owing to a side strain.
After India’s Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out for 3 weeks early on Tuesday, this is now a big blow for the Australian camp, as Stoinis was a vital cog in the Australian middle order wheel. The 29-year-old picked up the side strain during the match against India the other day at the Kennington Oval, which the Aussies lost by 36 runs.
As far as his chances of further participation in the ongoing World Cup is concerned, that call will be taken after further assessment before his team’s clash against Pakistan.
Who will be Marcus Stoinis’ replacement?
Although Stoinis has not been ruled out of the entire tournament, Cricket Australia (CA) have named another Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh as his replacement, who will arrive England in short notice.
Marsh had last played an ODI in Australian colours in January 2018 and was supposed to be at the World Cup venue later this month for Australia ‘A’s’ tour. But, now he will be joining his senior national side as a back up all-rounder in the team.

With Australia set to face Pakistan on June 12 (Wednesday), they will now have to ponder upon Stonis’ replacement at the middle-order. The Southpaw and elder of the Marsh brothers- Shaun Marsh is more likely to get an affirmation nod as he has been in decent run of form for the Aussies in the previous few ODI series. In fact, he was the first choice as Australia’s no.3 batsman before the experienced duo of Steve Smith and David Warner joined the squad after a 1-year ban on ball-tampering charges.
Stoinis, however has had a very ordinary 3 World Cup games so far, as he has picked up only 4 wickets and has scored 18 runs in two innings. He was out on a duck against India at The Oval the other day.
