Aguero Leaving City: How John Terry Stopped Chelsea From Bidding For Sergio Aguero
Things could have turned out extremely different for Chelsea and Aguero
Over the years as Sergio Aguero grew in stature for Manchester City and sealed his spot in the club’s folklore, one story which has died is up Chelsea’s botched attempt to land the striker. However, its come to the fore once again after Sergio Aguero and Manchester City revealed the striker would be departing the club at the end of this season.
Terry Dissuades Chelsea From Aguero Transfer
As per a report in The Athletic, Chelsea were said to be avidly monitoring Sergio Aguero during the Argentinian’s time in Atletico Madrid. However, captain John Terry is said to have refused to a potential bid by Chelsea for the striker with the CB preferring David Villa instead.
With player power running the show at the club back then, Chelsea decided to go by Terry’s word and cool off their interest in Aguero. However, the club failed to land Villa either with the side ultimately opting for Fernando Torres who ultimately bombed at the side.
It’s a mistake Chelsea are bound to have beaten themselves up for over the years. Aguero who moved to Manchester City has gone onto scored on a staggering 257 for the clubs, helping the side left a multitude of Premier League trophies in the process.
Aguero’s long and illustrious association with City finally comes to an end. The player whose contract ends this season will not be accorded a new deal by the club to see the two part ways this summer.

“The task to maintain this well-deserved privileged position will remain on others. As for myself, I will continue to give it my utmost for the rest of the season to win more titles and bring more joy to the fans. Then, a new stage with new challenges will begin, and I am fully ready to face them with the same passion and professionalism that I have always dedicated to continue competing at the highest level.
“A huge sense of satisfaction and pride remains in me for having played with Manchester City for a whole ten seasons – unusual for a professional player this day and age.
“Ten seasons with major achievements, throughout which I was able to become the top historic goal scorer and forging an indestructible bond with all those who love this club – people who will always be in my heart.”
