Andreas Granqvist to Manchester United: The Swedish defender has reacted to reports linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United have struggled ever since the beginning of the 2018/19 season. During the summer transfer window, the club failed to fulfill the manager’s player demands, and as the season began, it reflected directly on their performance.

The club is currently 8th in the Premier League, with 13 points from eight matches. Their last match against Newcastle United, however, has brought a positive spirit among the club supporters, as Mourinho’s side came from 0-2 down in the second half to win 3-2.

Alexis Sanchez, who has underperformed ever since joining the club in January, scored the winner for United against Newcastle. Anthony Martial and Juan Mata also bagged goals, and Paul Pogba was influential in the second-half comeback at Old Trafford.

Last week, Manchester United were also linked with a January move for Swedish defender Andreas Granqvist. The media in Sweden reported heavily on the move, and the player has now reacted to the story.

Andreas Granqvist to Manchester United:

Swedist media has reported that Granqvist could be subject to a loan move to Manchester United in January, as the club attempts to solve their problems at the back. This move would be similar to Henrik Larsson’s back in 2007, when the Swedish footballer shined for the club in his short spell after January loan move.

Granqvist currently plays for Helsingborg, and the 33-year old has expressed interest in a move to Manchester United.

“I’m flattered to even be linked with a such a big team as Manchester United. Then we’ll have to see how much there is to it, but I’m sure there’s an interest since it’s in the media,” Swedish media outlet Expressen reported him as saying.

“I’m not closing any doors.

“But it’s so far away and, as long as there’s nothing concrete, it’s mainly just speculation. We’ll have to see what happens. I’m fully focused on Helsingborg, and it’s not relevant now anyway since the window is closed.

“If there is a concrete proposal in January I’ll have to consider that then, and Helsingborg will have to consider that then. Right now, there isn’t.”

What next?

Manchester United are facing significant problems in their central defence at the moment. Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, who were touted to be the first-choice centre-back pairing, have struggled with form since the beginning of the season.

Mourinho is forced to play midfielder Scott McTominay in the central defence, who committed a sloppy mistake during United’s away game against West Ham, which they lost 3-1.
