The Argentinian attacker signed for Manchester United in a massive 59.7 million pounds transfer deal. However, the transfer was a failure as Di Maria merely a season later for Paris Saint Germain.

During his time at Old Trafford, Di Maria scored only four goals in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Louis van Gaal, who was the manager of Manchester United at that time, was often criticised for not using Di Maria properly in the XI.

The winger has now broken silence over his failure at Old Trafford, and criticised the Dutch manager for not allowing ‘to spend his best time’ at the club.

Angel Di Maria to Man Utd:

The player’s time at Manchester United career was marred with inconsistent performances.

Louis van Gaal decided to drop him for Ashley Young later in the season, forcing Di Maria to spend most of the second half of the season on the sidelines.

The winger made 32 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions. And now, he has opened up on his tenure at the club, and criticised van Gaal for his failure at Old Trafford.

“I only stayed for one year. It was not the best time of my career, or rather I was not allowed to spend my best time there,” Di Maria told France Bleu.

“There were complications with the coach at the time.”

Di Maria states that he is happy at PSG, and that the club gave him the opportunity to show ‘whi he was.’

“But thank God, I was able to come to PSG and demonstrate again who I was.”

Paris Saint Germain will play Manchester United in the round-of-16 of the Champions League, and Di Maria stated that the team is confident.

“We still have matches before facing Manchester,” he added. “They have changed with their new coach and they have not lost a match.

“I think we started the year not so well in the Champions League, but we put the situation right and we finished top of the group.

“Now, we must think of ourselves and nothing but ourselves. If we do things well, everything will be fine.”
