Anil Kumble is set to continue as head coach until the Windies tour
The BCCI has just released a statement in which they have said that Anil Kumble is set to continue as head coach until the Windies tour. This comes just days after it was reported that the selection committee will need some more time to finalize on a full time head coach.
Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the future of Anil Kumble as India’s coach. Kumble’s future was in doubt after several reports emerged which said that the players did not want Kumble to continue as head coach. They did not like his authoritarian approach as they felt that he was treating them like school kids.

Captain Virat Kohli was also said to have fallen out with the coach on a number of strategic decisions. There was also a sensational report that which claimed that Kumble had leaked some sensitive team information to his media friends.
There were genuine fears that these reports would derail India’s Champions Trophy campaign. But thankfully for Kohli and team, they have progressed into the semi-finals after a convincing victory over South Africa.
Vinod Rai, head of the Committee of Administrators, confirmed that Kumble will continue as coach for the West Indies tour.
“Anil Kumble to continue as India coach till West Indies tour, subject to his acceptance,” said Vinod Rai, reported PTI.
Anil Kumble’s contract was scheduled to expire once the Champions Trophy ends. But he will be allowed to continue for the next tour, that is if he wants to of course.
