Antoine Griezmann blames wife for the missed penalty for France vs Albania in their Euro 2020 qualification match last night.
France faced Albania last night in the Euro 2020 qualification match at the Stade de France. France would overcome the Albanians 4-1 through goals from Kingsley Coman, Olivier Giroud and Jonathan Ikone but could have ended the match with another had Antoine Griezmann not missed the penalty.

Coman scored the opener in the 8th minute of the match before Giroud doubled the score in the 27th minute. Coman scored his second goal of the night in the 68th minute of the match. Ikone then scored the 4th in the 85th minute to put the game way beyond Albania’s reach.
Albania converted a penalty in the 90th minute. However, it was no more than a consolation goal. New Barcelona striker could have made the score a menacing 5-1. Unfortunately for him, his effort ended up crashing the crossbar instead.

Speaking on the missed spot kick after the match, Griezmann joked:
“I don’t know [what happened]. I don’t know.
“As I said earlier, maybe it’s because my wife didn’t watch the game!
“I was on a good dynamic but we can’t score every time. Too bad, I’ll have to work on it.”
Despite his penalty miss, France now join Turkey and Iceland as group H toppers with 12 points after 5 games. A delighted Griezmann said:
“We were missing important players, whether on the field or in the locker room,” he said. “The players who played in their place did it very well.
“We are on the right track and it shows that we are a group. We had a good game game. We can only regret the goal we conceded at the end.”
Earlier in the night, there was a controversy before the match had even started. Instead of playing Albania’s national anthem, Andorra’s national anthem was played. This led to a lot of confusion and the Albanian’s refused to play until the right anthem was played.
More embarrassment followed for UEFA as the Stadium announcer issued an apology to Armenia instead.
France will now face Andorra at home this Tuesday and will hope to establish themselves as the clear no.1 by then.
