Antoine Griezmann release clause: Barcelona set a massive release clause for new recruit

Antoine Griezmann release clause: Barcelona set a massive release clause for new recruit as they hand him a contract to keep him at the club for the next 5 years.

Barcelona have completed the biggest transfer of the season by acquiring Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid. The French striker did not come cheap, as he cut down Barcelona’s transfer budget by a massive €120 million. However, the price set as his release clause monumentally dwarfs that amount.

Barcelona have set a monstrous release clause of £717 million or €800 million  for their latest acquisition. This amount will ensure that no other club can snag him away from them unless Barcelona desires to part ways with him. This mammoth release clause also stands higher than Lionel Messi’s release clause which is set at £625 million.

Barcelona have signed the Frenchman on a 5-year contract. He will serve the club till the 2024/25 season. The club will present him as a player shortly. The Frenchman joins Frenkie de Jong and Neto as new Barcelona players this season.

A statement on Barcelona’s official website read:

“FC Barcelona has paid the 120-million-euro buyout clause to release Antoine Griezmann from Atlético Madrid.

“The player will sign a contract with his new club for the next five seasons, through to 30 June 2024, with a buyout clause of 800 million euros.

“We will shortly be publishing the full schedule for the presentation of Antoine Griezmann as a new member of the Barça first team.”
