Unai Emery makes a big statement on Mesut Ozil following the victory over Newcastle United on Monday night.

Arsenal took yet another stride towards their top four finish with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates on Monday night. First half goal from Aaron Ramsey and a strike from Alexandre Lacazette in the 83rd minute gave them a two-goal cushion and secure their second clean sheet on a trot.

Even though the Welsh International and Frenchman scored the goal, midfielder Mesut Ozil made the headlines with a fantastic display to lift the Man of the match award. Prior to Monday’s win, Ozil had started just three league games which put his future on the hold.

However, his performance against Manchester United and Newcastle proves that he is still one among the best despite failing to adjust to Emery’s method earlier this season. A month ago, the Spaniard spoke about the necessity of consistency in training to earn a place in the starting eleven.

“I like how every player is playing and Mesut with his quality is helping us and giving us his work. Also individual moments and skills, he has the capacity to help us.” Emery said.

However, following the display against the Magpies which saw him win the official man-of-the-match award ahead of Aaron Ramsey, Emery said: “Mesut is playing like we want, with the system and tactically. He is working a lot and after that work he is also giving us his quality.”

Following the game against Rafa Benitez’s side, the Gunners climbed two spots up to sit third in the league table. Despite their good form currently, Emery argues that the fight for the top four will go down to the wire.

“Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United will win a lot of matches. It’s going to be difficult and the next game at Everton is very difficult,” he said. We need to continue being consistent, continue creating a big mentality, learning when we need to struggle and when we need to push together.”
