Arsenal have made a 50 million euro bid for the Turkish International Cengiz Under.
Arsenal have made a 50 million euro bid for the AS Roma’s young sensation Cengiz Under who has been turning the heads of several scouts with his impressive spell with the Italian giants over the last couple of seasons, according to Tuttomercatoweb. It is understood that the Gunners have scouted the Turkish superstar on plenty of occasions this campaign.
Unai Emery’s bid worth 50 million Euro was instantly turned down by AS Roma, who have no necessity to sell him at this point of time. They have been reluctant to do business in the January transfer window having already qualified for the knockouts of the Champions League.
It is also believed that the Italian outfit are expecting a bidding war for the Turkish man in the forthcoming summer which will enhance them to sell him for a higher price than the reported price tag at the moment. Along with Arsenal, other clubs who are interested in the Turkish International are Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Manchester City.
Aftermath the arrival of Monchi, it has not gone to the task for them. But, he made a shrewd signing by wrapping up a deal for Cengiz Under for a fee of 13 million Euros from Basaksehir in 2017. Since his arrival at the club, he has hardly put a foot wrong under the management of Eusebio Di Francesco.
The Italian manager opted for back three for most parts of last season and started Alessandro Florenzi though the right flank. This forced Cengiz Under to sit on the bench. He was used as an impactful substitute as he made just 19 starts last term and scored 8 goals and bagged another two assists.
However, he has forced himself into the starting eleven this season and has already made 20 appearances till date. Additionally, his contribution towards the final third has been much more promising by adding 5 goals and 6 assists to his tally this term.
Despite the backline struggles of the Italian outfit, Cengiz Under has been putting in consistent performances for the club week in week out. They are not having any problem going forward, but the lack of defensive stability has cost so many points for AS Roma during the first part of the season.
On the other hand, things happening at Roma can be correlated to the Gunners as well. There is no scarcity in terms of goal with the likes of Alexander Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, but they are leaking too many goals at the back which is frustrating for Unai Emery who has lost his third game in the Premier League this season to Southampton last weekend.
Despite starting regularly for the Gunners, Mesut Ozil has been criticized for his underperformances this term. Should Unai Emery buy an attacking midfielder in the near future, it is highly likely to see the German being showed the exit door.
Arsenal will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup Quarterfinals at the Emirates on Wednesday, followed by another home fixture on Saturday against Burnley.
