Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners fullback set to leave for Spanish club

Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners fullback set to leave for Spanish club by next week, just a few days before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal have made a host of signings this summer. The club, notorious for being miserly in the transfer seasons prior have splurged this time around and bought in many names. This however, means that the club now has a multitude of players that are surplus to requirements.

Unai Emery has already confirmed that Arsenal are open to selling Mohammed Elneny and Shkodran Mustafi before the transfer window closes. However, reports have now emerged that they are close to offloading full back Nacho Monreal.

The 33-year old has been with the Gunners for 6 years. However, he has now fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of Kieran Tierney. Tierney was bought from Celtic earlier in the summer and will possibly replace Monreal.

Nacho Monreal set to leave

Spanish outlet Marca have reported that Monreal has reached an agreement with Arsenal to leave and will head to Spain where he will join Real Sociedad. According to the report, Nacho Monreal will join Real Sociedad on a 2-year contract with the option to extend another year.

Real Sociedad are confident that the transfer will be confirmed by next week. They hope to have his services before the transfer window closes. The fee is currently unconfirmed but it is believed that it will not be a huge one.

Nacho Monreal has started both of Arsenal’s games against Newcastle United and Burnley. However, he may be replaced by Sead Kolasinac, who missed the games over security concerns. Monreal started his career in Osasuna and then moved to Malaga. It seems now that he will return to the Spanish top-flight once again.
