Arsenal Transfer News: Mikel Arteta confirms his first signing in Pablo Mari as Arsenal manager

Arsenal Transfer News: Mikel Arteta makes his first signing as the manager of the club; Pablo Mari to join Arsenal on loan from Flamengo.

In an attempt to bolster their defence Arsenal has made their first signing of this January transfer window in Pablo Mari. Also, this is Mikel Arteta’s first purchase as the manager of the club.

According to the statement released by Arsenal, Mari has joined the club on loan from Flamengo but the Gunners have the option to make the deal permanent in summer.

“Pablo is an experienced player who will provide us with additional defensive quality.'” said Arsenal’s technical director Edu.

“We have been monitoring Pablo’s career for a while and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Flamengo for him to join us initially until the end of our season,”

“Together with Mikel (Arteta) and his coaching team, we are all looking forward to seeing Pablo in an Arsenal shirt.” he further said.

Mari was initially in Manchester City and Girona (owned by City Football Group) before making a move to Flamengo. Thus, Arteta is probably knowing in whom he has invested as they worked together when the Spanish manager was under his compatriot Pep Guardiola.

This move comes before the arrival of William Saliba, who was hired by Arsenal in the summer transfer window 2019 but was sent back on loan to Saint Etienne upon demand.

Arsenal has constantly tried to end the crises in defence but so far they have failed to amend it. As for now, one cannot pre-judge Mari’s inclusion in the team but he does not have any significant tenure at any club to boast in his resume.

Possibly, it could be a short term solution to Arsenal’s predicaments at defence with the Gunners viewing to hire potential upgrades next summer.
