Arsenal Transfer News: Unai Emery identifies Bundesliga star as first-choice target for summer transfer window

Unai Emery has identified Dayot Upamecano as the first-choice target for the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are entering a tough phase after missing out on the Champions League football next season. The Gunners transfer budget falls dramatically down as they enter the Europa League football once again.

They had a fantastic chance, sitting third with five games remaining in the Premier League, but they were not able to clinch a top-four spot. Unai Emery was handed another chance to qualify for Europe’s elite tournament, but his side humiliated by Chelsea in the Europa League final.

The blame will be on the manager for the failure to qualify for the Champions League despite owning a fantastic opportunity on a couple of occasions. Despite all the sad status, the Gunners will pick themselves again to fight to make their season, even more, better next time.

Albeit the small budget, any transfer would enhance the squad and Unai Emery is wasting no time in getting the transfer done. According to the reliable ESPNFC, the Gunners are keen on Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

RB Leipzig are aware of the interest from the London side and are willing to negotiate if their demands are met. Upamecano’s contract expires in 2021 and the club is looking to tie him down to a long-term contract.

Arsenal would be forced to spend a huge chunk of money on the defender from their transfer budget, making the deal more complicated.

Upamecano has already spoken about reservations of playing in the Europa League. This might hamper the transfer process of luring him to Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window. The French International’s side has already qualified for the Champions League and he would be less inclined to push for a side which competes in the Europa League.

Here’s how Twitter has reacted..

What’s next?

Arsenal will have less amount to spend in the summer transfer window. Unai Emery will be expected to make shrewd signings to compete for Champions League football once again.
