Real Madrid defender Marcelo has given an in-depth interview over the changes in the club since Zidane and Ronaldo’s departure.
Real Madrid have had a shaky start to the season. After a crushing 5-1 loss to Barcelona in October last year, the club parted ways with Julen Lopetegui.
The club has since picked up the pace and currently stands at 2nd in the La Liga, six points behind arch-rivals Barcelona.
One of the key members of the side, Marcelo face significant time on the sidelines under Santiago Solari, albeit partly due to injury issues. However, he insisted that he will not be offloaded this season and that he trusts in his work.
He also talked about the changes in the side after the departure of Zidane and Ronaldo, and made a rather interesting admission on Gareth Bale.
Marcelo on Gareth Bale:
Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013 from Tottenham Hotspur. Much of his Real Madrid tenure was marred with injuries.
Even in the current season, Bale has missed eight games across all competitions due to fitness issues so far.
Marcelo: “On the other side [of where I sit in the dressing room] I have Bale, but Gareth does not speak [Spanish] as he only speaks English and we talk with gestures and I say, ‘Hi, hello & good wine.'”

Marcelo: “It was strange as most of us did not know about Zidane leaving because everything was wonderful. For me it was a shock. We had a wonderful relationship & talked every day; he was interested & defended me. I ran, I fought, I played injured. I gave everything for Zizou.”

Marcelo revealed that Gareth Bale is also one of the least conversational players inside the Real Madrid dressing room due to the language barrier.
“[I was also sad] with [the departure of] Kiko Casilla, who was sitting next to me [in the dressing room],” Marcelo began.
“Every day I was saying, ‘How are you Kiko, how are you doing?’ and now I have no one next to me.
“On the other side I have Bale, but Bale does not speak [Spanish] as he only speaks English and we talk with gestures and I say, ‘Hi, hello and good wine.”
Earlier, Marcelo also talked about his conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo right before the Champions League final last year, in which the Portuguese forward conceded to him that he would leave the club at the end of the season.
Everyone seems to have some issue this year. But what’s worse is everyone is saying stuffs out in open which isn’t probably good if we were to win anything. From Isco to Marcelo to Bale to Carvajal to Ramos. Everyone has some triuble or other. https://t.co/L5H96ndGp4

Who’d have thought even a couple of months ago, let alone a year, we’d be heading into a Clasico with Vinicius and Reguilon as undisputed starters over Bale/Isco/Asensio and Marcelo. pic.twitter.com/5oxS5wwA4Z

“I had a very good relationship with Cristiano, his family and his girlfriend. I played 9 years with him and it’s normal to be sad,” Marcelo said about Ronaldo.
