France Football is set to give Ballon D’or award to the best footballer of the 2019 calendar year. Lionel Messi, Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane are tipped to be the favourites of the award.
Apart from the men category, there are awards in women’s category too, in which Megan Rapinoe is being predicted as the winner. With 30 nominees in total for the men’s prize, organised by France Football magazine and voted for by 180 journalists from around the world.
Croatia’s Luka Modric had won last year thanks to his exploits in dragging his country to the World Cup final and winning the Champions League with Real Madrid. That ended a decade in which Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo had won the Ballon d’Or five times each.

The 2019 Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on December 2. There will be an official red carpet ceremony of the event starting around 19:30 GMT (1:00 AM, December 3, IST).
