Barcelona to bid for Angel Di Maria if Coutinho bid fails

For all the talk of landing a replacement for Neymar, Barcelona realizes that it would be very difficult to find a like for like replacement.

The Catalan club are looking at several options, most notably Liverpool’s Phillippe Coutinho.

It has been widely been reported that Coutinho has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona, and now it is only left for the two clubs to decide upon a fee.

Coutinho has been identified by the Barcelona brass as someone who could fill Iniesta’s huge shoes. The legendary Spanish play maker is on the decline, as his imperious career is slowly but surely coming to a close.

While Liverpool have maintained that they will not sell Coutinho, there is a sense within the club that a bid over 100 million might be enough to seal the deal.

But Barcelona are not yet willing to pay such fee. They have proposed two swap deals with Liverpool, but both have been rejected out of hand. Klopp does not want either of Rafinha or Andre Gomes as part of the swap deal for Coutinho.

With Liverpool making things so difficult for Barcelona, the Catalan’s are looking at a second option. Messi has personally vouched for his compatriot Angel Di Maria to  be signed by the club. The winger has been a top quality player for several players, and will command a huge fee from PSG.
Di Maria’s previous allegiance to Real Madrid though might make it difficult to get him to join Barcelona. But the prospect of playing with Messi on a domestic level may prove to be too big a draw to resist for Di Maria.
