In a surprising turn of events, Arturo Vidal has passed his medical and Barcelona have agreed a £27m deal with Bayern Munich for his signing.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich. Eminent transfer journalists, Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca di Marzio confirmed the move last night. The Guardian have today reported that the deal is done and midfielder has successfully completed his medical at Barca.

Vidal’s signing has been surprising for many, as the club was never linked with the Chilean star in this summer transfer window.

The midfielder joined Bayern Munich in 2015, and played 79 Bundesliga games for the club, making 132 appearances in total, scoring 22 goals. He previously played for Juventus where he spent four seasons with the Italian club. Vidalwon league titles in all the seasons he has played for both the clubs.

Barcelona was reportedly in negotiations for a transfer of Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint Germain. However, the unwillingness of the French club in selling their 23-year old midfielder led Barcelona to turn to Arturo Vidal. There were also reports of Barca’s technical director, Eric Abidal meeting Paul Pogba in the United States, but it now seems that the Catalan giants went for the less expensive option.

According to the Guardian, Barcelona are also close to a move for Senegal defender Moussa Wague. The defender became the youngest Africa player to score in the World Cup in June this year. However, the defender is likely to initially join the Barca B side.

Arturo Vidal becomes Barcelona’s fourth major signing of the summer. Earlier, Barcelona completed moves for French defender Clement Lenglet and the Brazilian pair of Malcolm and Arthur.

Inter Milan was earlier poised to make a move for Arturo Vidal, but according to Di Marzio, the Italian club has now turned their attention to Real Madrid and Croatian star Luka Modric.
