Barcelona have approached Boca Juniors for a potential transfer of Cristian Pavon.

The Catalan giants have approached the Argentine club to make an enquiry for the 22-year old Argentine winger. According to reports from AS, journalist Leo Paradizo claimed on Radio Continental that “Barcelona have made contact with Boca in the wake of glowing references from international team-mate and current Blaugrana star Lionel Messi.”

Cristian Pavon has been selected ahead of players like Mauro Icardi and Javier Pastore in Argentina’s 23-man world cup squad. Pavon could now be playing alongside Lionel Messi at FC Barcelona as well.

According to AS, Messi is an admirer of Cristian Pavon, and he has expressed his appreciation for the winger in the past.

“I’ve found a new partner in Pavón, he’s a really good player,” Messi said about Pavon after Argentina’s 4-0 win over Haiti last month, as Argentina prepares for the world cup in Russia.

“He’s very quick and quite different to what we have in the squad,” Messi said.

Pavon played a crucial role in Boca’s title winning campaign last season. He registered 9 assists, and scored as many goals throughout the league campaign.

There might be a some release clause in Pavon’s current deal with Boca Juniors, which Barcelona may need to trigger. In the past, FC Barcelona faced complications regarding the Neymar’s transfer fee. Recently, Santos’ president claimed that Barcelona has yet not fully paid the transfer fees for Neymar. The president also denied Barcelona the sale of youngster Rodrygo on the back of Neymar deal.

However, when Lionel Messi comes and recommends someone’s name, it’s hard to ignore and move on.

At 22, Cristian Pavon must have expected interest from Europe, and it seems the time is right for the winger to make the switch.
