Barcelona starts inserting 'Anti-Pique' clause in new players' contract

Barcelona starts inserting ‘Amt-Pique’ clause into the new player’s contracts amidst his concerning off-field lifestyle and effects for the team.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic once said that Barcelona dressing room is like a school, where players are expected to be obedient towards the manager of the club.

We don’t know whether the Catalans believe in such extent of obedience even now but surely the club would be quite protective about the discipline within the squad.

Hence, as per the reports by the ABC Pique’s behaviour has angered senior figures at Barcelona who are worried that his priorities have shifted from football.

The Blaugranas have decided to prevent new players from being influenced by Pique’s attitude, so they have reportedly decided to start inserting ‘Anti-Pique’ clause in the contracts of new players, which curbs non-footballing commitments.

Barcelona was upset when Pique disappeared after the Spanish Super Cup in 2018. The 32-year-old defender was contacted by Ernesto Valverde after leaving for Orlando without permission. Pique told his manager that he would miss just one day of training.

The life of Barcelona defender outside Nou Camp is full of different avenues he has invested. He has even played a major role in the launch of the World Cup of Tennis.

Thus, Barcelona ais trying to avoid this situation with their other players in future, as Pique is often included in activities beyond football, which reduces his required commitment to the club.

Recently Pique also talked about his ‘unhealthy’ sleep hours, which are not sufficient for a footballer playing at this level with more than 60 games in a season.

Nevertheless, Pique is a senior player at the club with his association with the first team being around 12 years, and with his struggles to perform this season has made others question his commitment to the game.
