Imagine scoring two hundred’s in a single match only to end up on the losing side. That’s exactly what happened to Joe Clarke in the match against Warwickshire yesterday. Despite piling up 498 in the first innings, Warwickshire won the match by 8 wickets.
Warwickshire scored 488 runs in their first innings to reduce the margin to 10 runs. The Notts batting second, crumbled 105-5. Joe Clarke, who scored 125 in the first innings, shouldered the responsibility in the second innings with a fighting 112 to take their score to 260; a lead of 270.
Surely Clark wanted more as he exploded in rage after being dismissed. Ben Duckett, Clarke’s teammate, however, saw the funny side of things. He posted the video on twitter asking others to caption the rather funny video clip.

Joe Clarke played one onto his own leg stump before thrashing the other two with his own bat. Much like how Nottingham were outplayed by Warwickshire, Joe Clarke’s brilliance was overtaken by Dom Sibley’s 215 not out in the first innings before scoring a quick 109 to help chase down the target 271 inside 56 overs.
Clarke had nothing but praise for Sibley after the match. Speaking to BBC, he said:
“Dom Sibley is a man in form and has played unbelievably well. As a close mate of mine, hopefully I can see him in England colours this winter.”
If Clarke performs just as well as he did for Notts this week more frequently, it shan’t be long before he himself gets a call up to represent the Three Lions.
