Real Madrid

According to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to activate Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio’s release clause that would bring the 21-year-old to the Emirates. Wenger, well known for his unwillingness to splash too much money on a single player, has surprisingly asked the Arsenal Board to pay Asensio’s 72 million pound release clause to secure his services.

However, Asensio has no intention to leave Los Blancos and is determined to extend his stay at the Bernabeu. Multiple reports claim that Asensio demanded an emergency meeting with the Real Board and manager Zinedine Zidane to discuss his future with the club. In spite of not playing as much as he would have liked, Asensio has no doubt regarding his decision and hopes to remain with the club and would like to develop his promising career under the eyes of Zidane.

Asensio would be hoping to use this interest to leverage a new deal that would involve a pay rise and some reports claim that Asensio would earn as much as Luka Modric, Isco and Toni Kroos from this deal, assuming it happens.

Arsenal is not the first club to be linked with the talented Spaniard. It is said Barcelona had passed on the chance to sign Asensio from Espanyol a season or two ago and the Board is keeping a close eye on his situation with their arch rivals(Possible Regret!). Liverpool already had a 42 million pound bid rejected, while Manchester United and Juventus has had interest in the 21-year-old.

Marco Asensio is considered to be one of Europe’s hottest prospects in the world today. After breaking through into the first team squad last season , the former Espanyol player netted an impressive 10 times in 38 games in all competitions for Los Blancos, including a well finished goal in the 2016/17 Champions League final against Juventus.

And he carried his good form into the summer’s Euro Under 21 Championships, winning the silver boot as Spain lost the finals to Germany.  “Asensio has the best left foot after Lionel Messi.”, said Madrid boss Zidane in one of his pep talks during one of the training sessions with the club.

Hearing a praise of that magnitude from someone you admired your whole life must be a crowning moment in the young man’s early career so far, and if Asensio keeps up with his growing reputation, it won’t be long before he becomes one of the world’s best, if not the best. Having recently scored a wonderful goal in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup, he has only enhanced his glowing reputation.
